I'm From the Wrong Place
I’m from rushed hospital visits.
And from answered prayers for mistakes.
I am from falling and getting staples in my head, a brother with stitches in his leg.
And I’m from a sister who brought us together when she needed stitches in her heart.
I am from a father tearing into his leg when he took the guard off a chainsaw,
but a 70 year old carrying a chainsaw 40 feet off the ground.
I am from pets out in the yard with the wild,
and from animals in the living room.
I am from a humble house and values,
But from an oversized school and family.
I am from missing places I haven’t been,
and from leaving behind where I’ve been.
I am from fishing with my dad,
From bigger fish than my bigger brother.
I am from driving five hours to sit in the woods.
From not knowing where I am, but feeling at home in the unknown.
I am from nights by the fire, and leaving the city to see the stars.
I am from longing for the peace and quiet and the fresh air of the outdoors.
