Chapped Lips
Tongue sweeps over chapped lips,
Replenishing dry and forgotten corners
With flaky and temporary promises of comfort.
Greedy winter air seeps noiselessly into the thin crevices
Carved in my mouth,
Stealing away past impressions of an orange juice summer.
Torn pieces of skin cling tightly to pink and parted petals,
Itching to savor the remnants of disappearing warmth
Surrendering to winter's insatiable appetite.
