TURN THE PAGE
The colour has yellowed
The ends are thumbed
The scent has gotten musty.
Those words on that page,
Are the only words you know
Because those are the only words you’ve read.
It all started with the downward spiral
And you’ve been on the same page since;
Since you stopped making efforts,
Since you gave up.
You know not of the invigorating sunrise,
Of the lush trees, of clear streams, of gentle winds.
You know not of the cub’s first growl,
Of the bird’s first flight.
You know not of the hundreds who died
For a cause.
You know not of the thousands born
For a cause.
You know not of the gentle tap on your door,
The tap-encrusted with blessings,
The tap to heal you, to make you whole again;
Because you never turned the page.
Turn the page and you shall know pain.
Pain like you’d never known before,
Pain like you’d never felt before.
Once you drown in it,
Only then will you swim in it.
Turn the page and you shall know life.
Life like you’d never known before,
Like like you’d always wanted.
