The Butterfly Effect
Dear blue haired girl working at the movie theatre in Bloomingfeild, Indiana,
I hope the tattooed name on your wrist does not become a stain on your skin.
And I hope you meant it when you said, “I’m okay thanks for asking.”
Dear child I gave the stuffed animal I won in the claw machine to,
I hope the small plush is still in your room somewhere,
And I hope someday you give it to someone who needs it.
Dear second grade teacher who gave scratch and sniff stickers,
I hope you finished your book, and maybe i’ll stumble upon it someday.
And I hope I find myself within the pages.
Dear man who almost drowned two years ago at the beach,
I hope you forgive me for not going out into the waves to save you.
And I hope you forgive me for saving myself.
Dear whoever is writing this story, whether you be God or Fate,
I hope intertwining me in these stories meant something.
And I hope this all means something.
Sincerely, An optimistic butterfly,
trying to create ripples with her wings.
