The Cup
I am awakened by light through my window
I brew water for our coffee
To start the day's adventures
My wife is sitting on the couch with a still face
I tell her the coffee is ready
when I reach her she has already gone through the Gates
The next morning i am disrupted by a shadow of a life I once knew
when i put on the water for my coffee
that cup is still there
the cup of coffee she never got to have.

This piece was inspired by my Nana who recently passed away from cancer, My papa still has her coffee cup sitting on his counter from the morning she passed away the cup she never got to have it has the mix for the coffee in it and the amount of sugar she use to use. As his life moves on the little thing like a cup can have such a deeper meaning to him than it ever has.
