You are a yellow rose

On our 6 month anniversary,
I braced the cold in only a long sleeve
And jeans,
Borrowing money from my friends
To buy a yellow rose, your favorite,
And some raspberry sweets
I discovered, you weren’t home
I left the rose and sweets on
The window sill,
Promising
That I’d keep your demons still
“Did you ever notice the petals wilting?”
You said, the day after
No, I didn’t, I replied,
And I didn’t see them at all
Until I started to
fall in love with
Violets.
