Favorite Quote:
"If a body catch a body running in the rye."

A child

that lightly draws it's breath

what does it know of death?

A newborn

her eyes as blue as the sky

on a winter afternoon

Baby blue eyes

eyes filled with joy;

innocence

But this child

who lightly draws her breath

what does she know of death?

She laughed

with her toothless smile

to be mimicked by everyone around her

Happiness filled the room

on that New Years night

before the short end of a life

Yet this child

who lightly draws her breath

what does she know of death?

Soon wires were her anchor

the difference between life and death

yet, on Januarary 8th, 2016

Baby blue eyes would be put to rest

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem for my cousin, Olaia. As a result of a tragic accident she was suffocated, and was dead for a short period of time before the police came and she was rushed to the hospital after being revived. Even though she was alive, she was braindead. The only thing keeping her alive was a machine, until her father made the decision to put her to rest. I read this poem at her funeral, and for some reason decided to put it on Teenink.
