The Yosemite Valley

I taste the air that surrounds me
cool breath blowing up through the valley and into my lungs
I feel the sun on my skin
early-morning sun, just warm enough to thaw my frozen cheeks
I hear the water plummet from the cliff
a whisper in my ear that drowns out every thought in my mind
I smell a thousand evergreens
an aroma encompassing every spec of air, purifying all that it reaches
I see the vast Yosemite Valley laid out before me
the serenity and purity that doesn’t leave me for many years to come.
