A Dead Man's Daughter
A dead man’s daughter
she sings her song
a song of sorrow
a song to keep
Her melodious voice
tells a story
of pain and love
mingled in one complicated tale
A dead man’s daughter
pours her soul
into the abyss,
into a boy
who never stays.
She reaches a pitch
you can’t achieve
when singing of the boy
who only leaves
A dead man’s daughter
sings of sadness
a new type of music
that makes real tears
in everyone who hears it.
Her face is pale,
her eyes are red
when she sings of all
the people who’ve left.
A dead man’s daughter
stands at the edge.
She holds her breath.
She takes a leap.
The world is void
of her beautiful voice,
the voice that sang of sadness.
The voice that sang of pain.
A dead man’s daughter
is a million feet under
the waves.
She’ll never be found,
as it was when she was alive.
A dead man’s daughter
has joined her father
over the cliff,
under the waves.
