Where I am From
I am from the sand on the beach
from the pavement Ian tried to cook eggs on one summer
I am from sloppy snow cones and birthday parties by our pool.
from visiting my grandparents house that smelled like fresh orange blossoms
I am from the palm trees swaying in the summer breeze in my front yard
and from the foggy days I stayed home from school
I am from switching schools and saying goodbye
from 50 degree winters that became snowy
I am from snowmen, sledding and snowballs
from cozy couches with cups of hot chocolate
and from fog traded for snow
I am from busy high school football games
from trick or treating even though Heather and I were sophomores
I am from sleepovers on school nights
and leaves drifting through the autumn wind
I am from night trips to Qdoba with Matthew
from driving with the windows down burning out the sub
and summer falling through my fingers
I am from being different
and love, family and friendship
I am from change
