"Sleep. Those little slices of Death: Oh how I loathe them..."
"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity..."
"Deep into that darkness peering long I stood there. Wondering...Fearing...Doubting..."
- Edgar Allan Poe

I am from two worlds
Biláaghaná and Diné

I am from the Black Wood Streaked People
and the Red Running Into the Water People

I am from the Valley of the Sun
filled with crime and pollution

I am from flaming skies the color of fire that fade into soft ochres and reds
from burning heat woven out of sunbeams

I am from firm hand shakes with held eye contact
and gentle hand caresses with bowed heads

I am from the scratching of a pencil
as I draw the Coral Pink sand dunes and an eagle’s sharp eye

I am from black fingertips on graphite covered hands
attached to brown paint splattered arms

I am from the popping and sizzling of hot oil
the aroma of fresh fry bread in the air

I am from the beating of the drum
and the screams of AC/DC

I am from ears weighed down by heavy turquoise
from necks glistening with shining silver

I am from two worlds
Biláaghaná and Diné
