Remembering When You Were Here
I was an oblivious child not noticing what i’ll miss in the future,
I remember the campfires,
I heard the jokes being told.
I saw many smiling faces
I worried we wouldn’t be together again.
I thought we would be together forever.
I am sitting here without them.
I think they forgot about us,
I need the times we had, back
I try to think they’ll be here next time.
I feel empty
I forgive them.
I will be okay without them for awhile.
I choose the moments then, than now
I dream about those nights around the campfire.
I predict we will all be together again.
I know they’re gone but not for forever.
I remember the last time they here.
I will change.

Over the years a few families including mine have gone camping together, but every year someone leaves for college and never comes back.
