You turned and faced me, and the gleam in your eye was gone.
Your face no longer lit up at the sight of my long brown hair, pale skin, or light blue eyes.
And for the first time I felt my heart crack.
The love you once had for me disappeared into a cloud of smoke.

For the first time, you didn’t look at me like I was a golden apple
The golden apple given to Aphrodite
that would lead to Paris meeting Helen,
Helen leaving Sparta and the 10 year long Trojan war.
You did not see me as a 10 year war worth fighting
You did not look at me like a prize to be won.

You didn’t see a future like you once had.
A future where we lived side by side till death do we part.
The gleam in your eyes replaced by a subtle cry for change.

You’ll now let me go and I’ll become nothing more than a memory.
A glittering apple disappearing into the ruins of Troy.

Into the mess it alone had created.
