A little girl
Too young to understand the world
Had a prayer
She wished for a father who'd be there
One that would let her know
That he believed, by chasing her dreams
She could be anything she wanted to be
He'd read her stories and tuck her in at night
He'd hug her and tell her everything was going to be alright
But these were hopes too high
Because her father was an army guy
And though he loved his daughters
He felt that he wasn't ready to be a father
Those two little girls
Were this man's whole world
And yet he left them behind because
He wanted to find just who he really was
Meanwhile the little girl started to see
There was something missing in her family
So she made a wish on a star
And she prayed with all her heart
Her hopes had grown so big
On the day she saw that army rig
It was coming up her drive way
And she knew her daddy was home to stay
Some men got off the truck, took off their hats and bowed their heads
They handed her mom a folded up flag and told her that the little girl's father was dead
Why was her mother crying,
These men, they must be lying
Although she didn't know what death meant
She knew where her daddy went
"He's in heaven with Jesus!"
She looked up as she said this
And saw colors in the sky,
A rainbow, her father's last goodbye.
