Drowning With Could Haves

We could have been legendary,
we could have made everyone jealous.
A love worth painting
because everyone should have a piece
of what we could have been.
That could have been us.
A love with a tragic end
and hearts that get broken like glass.
Oh that would have been grand.

Instead we are a could be case.
We never got closure,
we never got anything
except hope put in to both of us
to the point where we started believing
that we could make it work.
But it wasn't meant to be.
I would give anything
to be able to have that tragic love with you.
To have the chance.
But no. I only got the privilege of knowing you.
But did I even know you?
I mean I did, I knew you.
Only you though,
not your smile or your voice.
I never met you
and I probably never will.

Thats the crazy part,
we never met.
Ever.
I barely have an image of what you look like
except for two pictures,
one which I lost and another that I have on my phone
and look at from time to time when I feel emotional.
Thats all.
Maybe thats why I am so eager
to write you this letter because I never got enough.
We never got enough.
Still you matter
and I hope I matter to you the same way.
So I am writing you this letter mainly for myself
since it won't get mailed to you any time soon.
Just to get all the bottled emotions out
instead of feeling like I am drowning with could haves.
