Snake
You are quiet,
Cold, quick, sharp,
Yellow eyes unmoved,
Darting, flickering
A candle flame
Wavering,
A hesitant breath caught
In the throat.
You are a body of ribbons
Elegant curves
Curtains rippling in the wind
Shifting shadows
And the sly nuances of
Cool jazz.
You are moonlit waves,
Tumultuous,
The peaks and decrescendos
I ride, a fluid warrior
With liquid metal armor
Glistening white-hot
Off my skin,
Pooling, lapping at your feet.
You are the pause
Before the hurricane,
The lash of a whip,
Fast-acting venom
And lost innocence.
