The sun rises on that bright spring morning,
And now my world lay gray,
Against these vibrant flowers.
Someone is gone.
Fresh in my mind,
His laugh vibrates,
His hug consumes me;
His weak body frail,
And my last memory.
Just like my world
Has lost its shine,
So did his,
His last years alive.
I travel through this day,
Mindless and untouched
By the emotion and sadness
That rings, lost, in my ear.
My grandmother has written
Her last valentine
To her one and only love.

This piece was inspired by my grandmother's blog post that she published her first Valentine's Day as a widow. The blog post moved me to tears as we approached the anniversary of his death that coming March.
