The Mask of Perfection
her smile’s a lie
to distract from her tears;
her laugh is a cover
to hide all her fears.
her cry’s filled with anguish;
she’s breaking within.
her soul bears the torment
of another’s sin.
she’s bright as the sun;
You can’t help but stare
at the girl filled with beauty
and a kindness so rare.
but Your envy’s misplaced;
You don’t want to be her.
her heart has been mangled,
though Her soul remains pure.
so, don’t look with your eyes,
but, instead, with Your heart
at a girl who seems so together.
yet is falling apart.
