Martin Luther King Jr.

Had a dream

Rooted in the dreams of America

That one day

Equality

Would exist

Between all members of the

Color

Spectrum

White

Could Equal

Black

Could Equal

All the shades in between

And while palettes

With globs of

Multicultural

Paint

Have been fashioned,

The paintbrush rarely

Double-dips.

My friends,

My equals,

Although the paint stokes are

Short

and

Shallow

At least the colors can

Hold hands

On a

Canvas

Inspired by a man who wrote about being African-American and being discriminated, I felt compelled to write about what it might be like.

Thank you very much. The ending was also supposed to signify that even if there is racism in this world, there will always be unity in someone's head, somewhere.

I love this! This poem is so insightful, so unapologetically honest, and so needed! The "globs of multicultural paint" are a great metaphor, but my two favorite lines hands down are the symbol of "rarely double dips" and the reference (as I understood it, to We Shall Overcome) of "the colors can hold hands on a canvas." I love that you ended on a hopeful note!

Great metaphor(s), the line breaks are very effective, too. I particularly liked the part from 'white could equal.. all shades in between.' Thanks for sharing this.
