Formulas
I was enchanted by
The math equations
On the worksheets and blackboards.
Mere scratches on a surface
Simple ink on a page
The keys to a unique universe.
Patterns of numbers and letters
Despite great variation
Adhere to the same set of rules.
I realized one day that
Rigid, unbroken patterns
Are not found only in math class.
Every human life has certain constants
Universal needs and wants
Common goals and desires.
Accompanied with countless variables
Supportive family, resilient personality,
Search of joy, amount of pain.
Outcomes vary but death doesn’t discriminate
Whether you had a brief miserable life or
Many long and satisfying days.
Do not be fooled by the monotonous appearance
Do not be shaken by the formulaic pattern
Do not be afraid of living the equation.
Meaning and beauty and simplicity
Are inherently available
Though they will not present themselves.
