like a fire we burned bright, later on that night

Loneliness

No words can describe it.

It's gnawing and empty,

Palpable.

It hangs in the air like smoke.

I stand in the dark of my room

Not because I have conquered my fear,

But because anything is better than that longing.

All night,

I yearn for physical contact.

An embrace from one that loves me

My head on someones shoulder.

With the rising sun,

I forget all about it.

But as soon as my door closes,

I feel it.

It creeps through my body

Leaving me unable to sleep.

And when I do,

My dreams are haunted

By the people I love.

So close,

Yet so far away.

This poem was written at 1:30 in the morning and I was quietly crying as I went. I want to help others have felt this way because I know how truly terrible it can feel.

Hey, I totally feel you. But sometimes, even when I'm around my friends and family, I can't help but still feel a sense of loneliness. Great poem - raw and powerful.
