You had her at hello.
She followed restlessly as those two syllables gently
Clicked the roof of your mouth, exquisite lines of
Poetry to one who dreams in sentences.
She trailed you through the anger.
For how could one who spent life reading
Tales of lavish fire, lusting after its unbound arms
Understand the danger of the heat?
You lost her at goodbye.
Her words an icy blade severing,
Shattering your silky poetry, leaving you
Searching in desperation for a sentence.
