To love is to be vulnerable; Triumph is born out of struggle; We notice shadows most when they stand alone in the midst of overwhelming light.

I hear

the pitter patter
of my tears
falling down
and singing
a bittersweet song,
from the ground;
like the rain
raining down on me.

Her sobs
shake
as they fly out,
like lightning
flashes across
the sky
on dark storm.

Her breaths
rattle
as they draw in
while she draws
her inhales
on her piece
of paper.

She exhales
her exhalations,
like the waves
that come in
like they were
blown in from a force;
just like the wind
that puffs out
its tired breaths.

She remembers
the lies
that you told her,
just like the stained glass
shining from a distance;
her tears
are melted diamonds,
springing up from the ground,
from the ashes.

Her tears
are all around her,
in her canvas cloth
and her shoes;
its like they're
small, liquid holes
that have a never-ending
fall to them;
they're like exploded crystals
that cut her heart
and that's why
the blood used to drip.

She hid behind
a hat,
stone/wood masks
and strangled/fake smiles
because you gave her
the impression
that she wasn't
good enough;
that she was like
a glass vase
with cracks.

Maybe my skin
crackles like the paper
I use;
maybe I am like
a sheet of scars;
but what's wrong with that?
I have scars,
but now they've healed
and have faded.

I maybe different,
and I might not
have the same blood
as you do;
it's true.
But this is true, too;
I'm just me;
why can't you accept me,
as me?
Why couldn't you see
that I can only be,
who I was meant to be?

"Be yourself. Everyone else is taken." -Oscar Wilde

I wrote this poem on a day it was raining, and as the rain fell down, I thought of it as the tears that I had cried in the past. As a young girl, I almost, always thought of the rain as tears; as the sky/skies crying.

This poem was inspired by God, by my past, by my struggles, by my pain. My life has started with a 'once upon a time,' but to others my life story isn't a fairy tale. My life has its downs, but I truly think that my story, my life is a fairy-tale story that is my own; that is written by God.

You can only be, who were meant to be. To be honest, this year I now, am becoming who I am meant to be. You can try as hard as you want to be someone else, but you can only be you. Just you. And you being you, is simply phenomenal. You do realize, that no-one will be like you and have the same talents and powers that you have? Maybe there will be some people similar to you, but no-one will ever have the same heart that you have. Be you, my friend. Become you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. :)

This touched me oh so deeply, Emily :) I could feel you struggling to just... let go. We all feel that way at one point or another. A breathtaking write, my pained friend. :)

Hanban12, thank you so much for commenting and telling your thoughts about my poem and encouraging me. It means a lot. I'm also glad that the emotion was there, I wasn't sure if the emotion was there, but now I'm glad to hear that the emotion is there. Also, the one favorite part of yours is also my favorite part, too. :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it and understood the message. Thank you so much, again! :)     Nightingale,  I'm so glad that you enjoye this poem! And that you were able to connect to it and undertsnad. Also, exactly. If people don't love you for who you are then they don't really know you, and yes it's their problem, haha. You're welcome! Thank you for commenting and telling me your thoughts on my poem and for encouraging me! Thank you, again! :)

I really really loved this poem...it was so powerful and inspiring...I'm in awe! It's so beautifully and eloquently worded (as your poems always are!), and it's so full of emotion!! I've also noticed that you tend to use the symbol of a mask in quite a few of your poems...I like it though! I think masks are such wonderful themes and symbols in poetry, there's a lot to go off of! And you always use them so wonderfully!! ;) But I also really liked the theme of this poem...I was able to really connect with it, because I too am a firm believer in being who I am meant to be. If people can't love me for who I am, then that's their problem. Thank you so much for posting this!!! :D I loved it so much and you did such a wonderful job!!!! :)

Such a powerful poem. Lovely and extremely well said. I love the message behind this piece, but I especially love the words that curtain over it. "Maybe my skin/crackles like the paper/I use;/maybe I am like/a sheet of scars;/but what's wrong with that?" You can just feel the raw emotion in every word, every phrase. Keep it up, Ms. Emily! You're a very, very talented writer :)
