I see the flowers in the field
Painted and grown with sunlight...
They will whither
Shiver with cold
And winter will cover their field
While their roots remain,
dark and hidden
Like hope
Safe from snow
Safe from cold and storms
And yet,
they will return
Just as bright and fragrant
As before

The author's comments:

When I was younger my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thank God, she overcame it. While I wasn't a witness to her battle or her strength, I know all of my family is grateful for her life every day and loves and appreciates her even more. I wrote this in her honor and also for my best friend's mom, who is still battling the same war. I pray for her and all women, men and children who are battling or have battled for their life and health.
