Now, We Just Sit In Silence
The sky is vast and cold and dark.
They gaze up at the darkness together, their gloves hands clasped, opening their mouths to the falling snow.
A snowflake falls onto the boy’s tongue. He swallows it, tastes it. Beside him, the other boy squeezes his fingers tight.
They stare up at the darkness, waiting for something, waiting for the world to end.
The world never ends. It goes on forever.
They stand there, together, in the darkness, for an eternity.
