Secrets of the darkness
The darkness is
still, mysterious,
relaxing, and silent,
but what is it hiding.

We do not know,
what secrets night holds.
Do lost souls
Wander through the darkness,
Passing through walls and doors,
watching me sleep,
while I lie unknowingly
in the center of my bed?

Out of my window,
I hear the nearby howling of coyotes,
in my back yard.

On stormy nights,
I imagine vampires and werewolves,
fighting while using the darkness
as their camouflage.

Shadows cast by the moon
show you the secrets
that the night really holds

People block out those
mysteries in which
we will never understand.
we replace those mysteries
with logical explanations.
We humans don’t really know what
and what not to believe.

As children, we know.
We know the feeling of
a lost soul passing bye.
When we get older we lose that feeling,
that feeling of fear and wonder.

There are scientists who try,
try to understand the darkness
and what it holds.

No matter how still,
Peaceful, silent,
or how empty we think  
the darkness is,
there will always be fear
lurking in the shadows of the night.
