Where I'm From
I am from Disney movies at eight o’clock,
feeling like a princess.
I am from dance class with tap shoes,
just because of the echoing sound.
From the Sunday morning my parents told me she died,
Going to church with tears in my eyes.
I am from a comfy blue chair that matched nothing,
lunch at the kitchen table.
I am from sharing a room with Katarina,
crawling into her bed during a thunderstorm.
From Barbies and stuffed animals,
believing that they could talk when I wasn’t there.
I am from Dad’s restaurant,
eating ice cream at night.
I am from peanut butter on a spoon and graham crackers dipped in milk.
From nap time turning into fooling around time while the teacher isn’t looking,
even though she knew we stayed awake.
I am from a private school,
and memories made.
From getting stuck on the monkey bars,
four square on the black top.
Gym class with light up tennis shoes,
double dutch at recess.
I am from playing in the front yard,
different games every day.
From staying true to who I am,
And loyalty.
