sitting on my rooftop
in the cold winter air
with my sister
side by side
counting every star
and wishing on the ones
we think are the brightest
until we get so tired
we can barely keep our eyes open.

so we climb down
helping each other along the way
as we trip on the ends
of our baggy sleepy pants
lead each other through
the darkness of the house
skipping over the loose floorboards
trying not to wake mom.

climb underneath the
blankets of our squeaky bed
and listen to her voice
as she tells me everything about her day
until i’m way too tired to reply
and fall asleep ….

I am very critical of poems, maybe a little too critical, but I love this.  The tone, diction and syntax is perfect.  There is a dreamy quality about this poem that is very appropriate.  The flow is great too.

Good job. I have a little sister - and this is the exact feeling I have in nights like those. I completely adored this poem, great work.

I love this. It is simple and happiness comes with simple things.

This is really sweet, and true happiness. Happiness comes from the little things, and it is so sweet to see the wonderful connection between the characters. Thank you :)

A very touching piece....it reminds me of those times when my sister and I aren't fighting.  It's times like those when we're the best of friends.

This is really pretty and I can see it in my mind. I have a question: roughly how long after you submitted this did it take for teenink to approve it and post it online???
