Of Scars
Society is misunderstanding:
They say our scars
Demolish our beauty,
But they symbolize wars
And overcoming pity;
They enhance our strength,
Engender respect;
We go to great lengths
And abhor the ideals of "perfect;"
We obtain these scars
Through twists of fate,
Acts of bravery,
The evils of hate,
And serendipity,
Not by carelessness,
Negligence for our body,
Or shamelessness,
Every man and lady
Bears their mark
Like a strength symbol,
For every person is a spark,
An unsolved riddle;
If only society could see:
The thing about scars
Is they never fade;
They stand out like stars,
Like every choice we made;
They are reminders
Of times we fell;
Because we are fighters,
Of our scars we shan't dwell;
Instead we must learn
To rise once again,
And still we must yearn
To find strength within.
