Piano hands
Any quietness, deprived of music
Causes itching in the veins
Released
With the pressing of invisible keys.
A sort of endearing ritual,
The music aloud only in their thoughts,
But expressed
Through an unfamiliar string
Of tappings.
Piano hands;
Delicate
Alive
Music infused in the fingers.
Wonder what it’s like
To have those long fingers
To tap unknowingly
With a melody singing
In the back of my mind.
To own Piano Hands.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece for a friend of mine during class, when I watched her tap her fingers as though she were playing piano. It was kind of lovable and I was enamored with the idea of having 'piano hands'. I thought it would be a nice tribute to those piano players out there, and to the people who wish they had piano hands, too.
