Waves of You
I’m so parched, but the only thing that can
Quench my thirst is piece of mind.
Been lying out to dry in a hot wave of sun for days,
Waiting for a drizzle of water.
Effort is useless, I just keep rolling back out with the tide,
Washing up on the shore again.
Deep inside I cry for our wavering friendship,
Though my eyes are sterile.
Your bittersweet memories, words, hugs, images,
Slowly slipping from my safe grasp.
Where is your face?
The one I used to know.
I fumble on the thought of your smiles, both of them;
The self-satisfied smirk when you’ve been clever
And that silly grin that dimples your cheeks
When happiness is accidental.
But you abruptly left me
Hanging by a sliver of black hope,
Clinging to spiteful words and tones of disappointment.
Begged to pull me up, instead you cut me off,
Let me fall to my end.
And now I am left parched,
Craving that piece of mind
That is walking solemnly by your side.
