To Be a Rose
Who doesn't want the rose?
With its fair colored, light petals,
Its decadent smell
Its outward beauty
Why wouldn't you pick the rose?
Is there no other prettier flower?
Is there a flower so delicate and light?
So beautiful outside
“But not all can be roses,
Not all can be liked,”
Say the others that sigh and cry at night.
Oh what wouldn't they give to be a beautiful rose?
Smiling in rhythm all through the night,
Loved and admired by all in its sight,
Who wouldn't choose the rose?
Something so perfect and loved,
Something so touched by the light of God
“But we can’t all be roses,” they still say,
And moan and cry
But why would we be all roses? One says
Why do we want to be?
For as we get to live in reality,
Doesn't the rose always get picked and deceived?
