The Clock and the Phoenix
The woman sat across from me
in the dark blue mini van
nails gripping the wheel
holding on
to the future she pictured
the life she gave up
as it sped down the freeway
Time is our biggest fear.
When my father heard
my daughter’s coo
A glass tear rolled down his cheek
and shattered in his lap
because I grew up a bit too fast.
