The pale body so still in the small white box
The room lined with bright white walls
And flowers scattered everywhere
They burn my eyes as the tears refuse to fall

I feel like I barely knew you
We were always no more than strangers
Yet I stand here, with soul-crushing sorrow
A piece of me breaks off, and I place it in the casket beside you

But as I stare down at you, I feel a warm tingling throughout me
Slowly burning up to the top of my head and the tips of my fingers
I shed my despair and feel new wings stretch beneath my skin
Soul-singing birth shines in my eyes and I turn my face up to the sky

I see myself in the mirror of the purest water and in the heavens of the sky
I see your hand reach as mine does to caress the water droplets
Touching back to earth, I look down at the empty white box
Risen from the casket, my uplifted soul brings me hope and strength

A new dawn rises and the sun shines on the bright, white walls
The vibrant flowers gleaming in every corner
I take my first step with a new soul
And leave behind my own funeral

The author's comments:
I was really inspired by the idea of rebirth and renewal. I also think many people don't really know themselves and they're not in tune with their own desires. I hope this poem can mean something to you!
