Scoliosis
Fast-paced rumbling raced underneath immobile feet.
The stench of nervousness radiated off the soon-to-be patient.
The taste of starved drowsiness made its home on my tongue.
Wide, foreboding buildings stood tall.
Whisperings of fear carried from coarse asphalt.
Sadness flowed down my cheeks.
Waiting room, filled with noise of unfamiliarity.
Numbers were called like Bingo.
Ordered around to various rooms, examined, as rancidness of sick and poor followed me.
Handed packets of papers to read, sign, fill out.
I was sure others could taste misery in the air,
But no one bothered to comment.
Laid out on uncomfortable bedding, I dutifully swallowed sleepy medicine.
The horrid taste of supposed grape hung in the air, as I giggled uncontrollably.
An empty gap sits in my memory.
Tears of pain rolled down my confused face, as consciousness returned.
Another gap, consciousness had escaped again.
When it returned once again, I was continuously handed pills to painfully swallow.
Throughout the week, tears appeared less and less,
Only returning momentarily, as bandages were ripped, my body repositioned.
Painful week over, I returned home, fairly recovered.
Once boring January finished, my life returned to normalcy.
