Hot Like the Tides of Lava
It’s the red rush of blood coursing through your veins.
It pumps with a fever, hot like the tides of lava.
Your cheeks flush and your palms sweat,
Your eyes gleam and your smile twists awkwardly,
And your heart rattles against your baited breath.
It beats in parallel with your heightened emotion --
Drumming out the song sung by many in a heated, passionate night
It also flutters with fear that your feeling will remain unrequited
You wipe the sweat from your palms,
Gulp down the air caught in your throat
Before you reach for their hands
You plunge
They meet
You hold
And you breathe
A gasp of fresh air accompanied by their scent
You’ve been saved, no longer drowning beneath the waves of your emotion.
