baby girl-

you owe nobody
anything
and when the boys
touch your leg
and tell you
they love you,

you have every right
in the world
to walk the other way.

baby girl-

you can break
all of the hearts
in the world

stop on them
in your pink
high-heeled
pointed-toed
shoes

and
it will never be
your fault.

baby girl-

you are strong
and capable
and just because
you are not a boy
does not mean
you are not
worthy.

baby girl-

i want you
to be you
and i want you
to be happy.
