My Lullaby
The wind is a chorus of people whistling a song for me
outside my window.
I peek outside the curtains to watch.
I see the trees swing and sway
to the music of the whistlers.
The trees twirl and wave.
I dance with the trees,
feeling the rhythm of the wind.
As I dance,
the branches clap their hands for me
and for the crisp feeling of cool breeze.
I nod and thank them.
I look up at the sky and see a curtain of velvety clouds
saving the performance of a sunrise for the morning.
A street lamp flickers out, winking me goodnight.
The darkness surrounds me,
but I don’t feel afraid.
I know that the trees are dancing
and the wind is whistling just for me.
I smile, lay my head to the pillow
and immediately drift into sleep.
