Chamomile Tea

The tea tastes bittersweet,
Missing its heat and love.
Only the soggy leaves remain,
Decaying 'round the rims.

They remind me of what I lost
And what I could have gained--
Dreams I let cool, passions I
Let fade, and love I gave away.

Mistakes litter my life like
Broken mugs too destroyed to repair,
Leaving hard, cutting ceramic
To stab at my unsuspecting feet,

And the cooling draft retains
A sour tang, corrupting the
Flavor of the same tea
That was once so sweet;

Leaving behind a fleeting memory,
Too cold and old to heat up again.
