The Fall
You just sat there and ignored me as I fell
You didn't even look up from your book
As I tumbled through the clouds
Their wispy curls turning into sharp knives
Stabbing me as I fell
You didn't even hear me scream
As I slammed into the trees
Crashing into branch after branch
The twigs scratching my face
And tearing through my heart
You didn't see me from your window seat
You could have looked up so easily
You didn't even try
Because you didn't want to
Brutal honesty was your only thought
Making it clear you didn't love me
Your only action
But didn't I love you?
You never asked, you assumed
While the responsibility to share my feelings was mine
The responsibility to use your eyes was yours
With both responsibilities neglected
How were you supposed to catch me when I fell?
I was under no illusion
That when I crashed into that cold hard dirt
That it wouldn't hurt
Of course it hurt
