"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity" - Edgar Allen Poe

I.

Dark as the night are my feathers

Dark as the night are my eyes

Dark as the night are my thoughts

Dark as the night is my being

Black as shadows are my feathers

Black as shadows are my eyes

Black as shadows are my thoughts

Black as shadows is my being

II.

I am the night, I am the shadows!

Feathers, eyes thoughts, being! of dark black

And as I caw to the pale moon,

You all bow your heads; my call is ominous

I am the night, I am the shadows!

Feathers, eyes thoughts, being! of dark black

And as I swoop and circle in the winds,

You all bow your heads; my flight is ominous

III.

Fear me, fear me! Say the proudest men

But even they fear me as they fear death

For my shadow can contain a soul

And my eyes, the dreaming of a demon

Fear me, fear me! Say the proudest men

But even they fear me as they fear death

For my beak shall ne’er leave your heart

And my form will ne’er leave thy door

IV.

I am the bird who plagues the sane man with madness

And who doth perch eternally upon their writing desk

I am that bird, Nevermore the Raven

And my presence is known to be ominous

So open up thy window lattice, let this deathbird in

And allow me to sit upon the bust above thy door, for

I am that bird, Nevermore the Raven

And my presence- ominous!
