Who We Are
I walk down the street,
And now all I see,
Are these blank faces staring,
Full of judgement,
Full of despair,
And I just can't believe,
What my home has become,
Once a safe haven,
My shelter from the world,
Infiltrated by people,
Whose intentions,
Are for the worst,
I know this world was never perfect,
But I can't help but believe,
Everything they say,
The judgement falls,
When the scars show,
The despair changes,
To thoughts so terrible,
And sometimes I think,
Would it be easier,
Just to slip away,
Make my worldly self disappear,
My imperfections,
Everything,
Gone,
But then I remember,
I'm here for a reason,
And it isn't to disappear,
It's to encourage,
To inspire,
To sing,
To dance,
To be joyful,
To show kindness,
To help others,
To be considerate,
To experience love,
To be who you want to be,
The few inspirations,
That keep me going,
But then I turn around,
And there it is again,
Like a haunting,
Or a constant regret,
It's always there,
And it's not going away,
It's here to stay,
And I can't believe,
Who I could be,
If I hadn't forgotten,
The real me.
