ocean current
i.
my psychology teacher once told me that
otters hold hands so they
won't drift apart and i
thought of you and your hands
and how they
slipped from mine like
waves washing sand away
(the waves called out to you louder than i ever could)
ii.
your eyes met mine
once in the sea of people and they
shone the same way sunshine
glitters on waves but
then the tide rolled in and you disappeared
forever
(you were an ocean current and i, the fleeting shore)
