The inside pocket
of his coat
contains his last
cigarette
and in the
back pocket
of his jeans
there's a Zippo lighter
that hasn't
felt so heavy
in years.
Not since
she found
his pack
and cried until he
promised
it was just left over
from before he quit
and he had
his fingers crossed,
hoping she
couldn't smell
the nicotine
in his apology.
