I know that forever doesn't exist
much to the dismay of cross-bearing
establishments
and the taxpayers in Happily Ever After
but I would have given at least one third
of the days I've already suffered
without you
to spend one forever in your arms
I won't get greedy
I don't need two forevers or three or infinity
a bound set of numbers will not do
and infinity, like forever, is bracketed by
two empty vats of nothingness
(although some may disagree
but I know you don't)
so I will take just one forever, please
as long as it is in your bed
and our lips do that thing
where they cease to be two sets of lips
and I can no longer distinguish between
the nothingness and the somethingness
and in our mouths
is a little infinity
just one, no more
until death
or nothingness,
whichever comes first
