Swimming Lessons
I’m sinking
into your tar-filled lies
and smothering deception.
coughing up blood
from the razors you shoved
down my throat;
whoever said words don’t hurt
lied.
because I have yours pinpricked
on the tip of my tongue.
I’m yanking on the fishing line
you reeled me in with
but it’s caught on the lining of my stomach…
I guess you didn’t believe me when
I told you
there were butterflies in my aching tummy.
You always had to see
to believe.
But you can’t see me drowning
and all I hear is your voice
yelling
“I knew you’d learn to swim”
laughing
“One day…”
