Collins
Who was gonna be the one, we wondered?
Who was gonna be the one, we asked?
Who was gonna be the one, we pondered,
The one who set a precedent for all those masked.
His name was Jason Collins,
and he is already fading away,
But his legend should spread like pollen,
In the way as did number 42,
He sat in locker rooms,
A secret all his,
But a secret that always looms,
Over those like him,
He had to do it,
And he did, he was brave,
But it was never quite quit,
It was more like stave,
He drove off those who might hate,
And instead brought affection,
He should be remembered as great,
Not just as another infection,
What he did on the court,
Was never that great,
But what he did off it,
Was surely first rate,
He set a path to follow,
For those who are like him,
So we shouldn't forget Jason Collins,
When the next one hangs above the rim.
