The Eyes of a Boy
Look at him.
Look into his eyes so
trusting
and true.
The tests and the days and
the pain
dissipated so fast--
Just the eyes waiting for you to say
"How was your day?"
Keep watching--
don't look away.
Don't let the world back in again.
All that is there
is the soul who cares.
But the distractions won't leave--
The worries, the past, the future
Which all left so quick
come back again and again
Hammering at your skull.
"Look at me"
He says quietly.
You're okay.
There is nothing else.
Keep your eyes trained on his.
He is what matters now.
"Are you all right?"
"For now."
Keep your eyes trained on his.
Don't lose
focus.
Because if you blink,
he's gone again.
