The Next Time
The next time I find love,
It will be much different than ours.
His voice will be warm and welcoming,
His touch gentle and soft.
There will be no feeling of hate or sorrow,
Just love and joy.
His interests will flow like a river,
Wide and true.
He’ll understand me, care about me,
And most of all, he won’t break my heart.
His love will be infinite.
It could stretch from Russia to Canada; Greenland to Lithuania,
And fly forever more.
He won’t crawl away and place me in despair.
Unlike the love I had with you,
He’ll be here to stay.
For you see, love is like a dance.
It is hard when your partner
Isn’t dancing with you.
And whoever he is,
Wherever he is,
He will dance with me.
And you with your cold, unwelcoming presence
And hurtful, killing words,
Should not have come to me.
For the next time I find love,
It will be better than ours.
And unlike ours, it will last…
…forever…
