By the Light of the Moon

I love gossiping by the light of the moon,
the back and forth up the hill
trying to collect all the dishes
that held the centerpiece of
every event.
I treasure the whispered secrets,
the shared smiles,
and the idea that I can belong.
Sadly, the nights have to end.
The dishes get washed,
the tables are cleared
and the moon steps down,
relinquishing its control to the sun.
